Sports Bands Claiming to Increase Balance, Strength and Flexibility - You Be the Judge!

Have a look around at most major athletes from surfing to tennis, basketball and footy and you might start to notice some colorful funky adornments on their wrists or around their neck.  It’s the latest craze in the sports world and quickly making its way into the general public, too.

Sports bands like the Power Balance band, essentially a silicone band with 2 small disks inserted, claim the technology behind their Mylar Holographic Disk (the same substance used to keep static electricity from damaging electrical components) has been imbedded with an electrical frequency that restores your body's electrical balance, promoting a free exchange of positive and negative ions and aligns your body's energy pathways.

Did you get all that? Here, they explain more…

They say the high density Disk acts much like a switch, resonating within your system and turning on your energy field while it clears the pathways so the electro-chemical exchange functions like a well-tuned generator.

Still unsure what the band does…

According to Power Balance we are all made up of a complex set of electro-chemical processes, a series of organic chemicals generating electro-magnetic energy with every movement we make such as breathing and moving our arms and legs, our brain thinks and a series of impulses originate and travel through our body.

And, efficiently exchanging a balance of positive and negative electrical charges, called ions, can make a huge difference in our lives.

It’s up to you…

You have to be the judge for yourself – it’s really the only way! Is it all mumbo jumbo or is it really the ‘totality of our existence’ as they say?

I have been wearing one of the bands for almost 3 months.  Am I stronger, more balanced? I can’t say that I’m running around the house feeling like a super hero lifting things with ease, but it has given me a sense of calm.  Whether it’s positive and negative ions working together in harmony or just my brain believing it, there have been positive improvements.

My routine at the gym including cardio and weight training 4-5 times a week is running smoothly and I seem to be experiencing a speedy recovery after weight sessions.  Running on the tread mill also seems to flow - perhaps it’s my new found balance.

As far as negative results I tried pushing a higher weight with the band off and on during a weight session and couldn’t feel any difference. Also, I tried wearing the band while playing golf and I seemed more off balance.  As soon as I removed the band my swing seemed to improve again.

Have a look at the tests they recommend you try, with and with out the bands on, and see for yourself.  I tested some people in my family and they had the same positive results as in the videos.

I guess the bottom line is if it does give you any edge or advantage, even if it’s mental, it might be worth it! At least they come in all kinds of cool colors so you can look trendy while wearing them for the $60 price tag.
