Day 3, Sunday, July 27 - Supergirl Jam, Huntington Beach, CA (+ VIDEO WRAP UP)

S3 Supergirl Jam, Huntington Beach, CA, July 27 – Day Three wraps up an amazing weekend at the Supergirl Jam in Huntington Beach. It’s been an action-packed three days with the best female athletes pushing the limits and setting the bar in competitive skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding.

There was sweat, blood and possibly a few tears after over 100 of the world’s best tore it up across the many venues set up on the sand around Huntington Beach’s pier. Girls performed their best tricks in the ocean, the skateboarding bowl, street park, vert ramp and rail jam.

Where else in the world can you witness an all-female assault from so many talented women in different action sports in one place. I can’t think of another female dedicated event quite like it.

The S3 Supergirl Jam, only in its second year running, is proving to be a huge success drawing out crowds in the thousands. And, the crowd was a mix of all types, young and old, male and female. This year’s event also ran along side the U.S. Open of Surfing showcasing big talent in the water.

The vibe amongst all spectators was sure amazement and appreciation with cheering and support all around. Athletes ranging in age from nine to 39 impressed the large crowd with their skills. With so many of the athletes under the age of 18 we are sure to see intense performance of this kind for many years to come.

One of the big highlights of the weekend was today, Sunday, when snow arrived at Huntington Beach for the Snow Rail Jam. The world’s best snowboarders wasted no time attacking the rail one after another offering huge entertainment to the cheering crowd. Laurie Currier, 23, from Wrightwood, CA came first taking home the money and won the best trick award for her frontside-bluntside on the rail.

It’s not often you see snow at the beach and especially during the summer months. It was definitely not to be missed. It’s great to see snowboarding can still be part of any event regardless of where it takes place.

As the snow began to melt the Skateboard Street competition went underway with the world’s best street skaters strutting their stuff and hometown girl Lauren Perkins, one of Huntington Beach’s own, walking away with the big check.

Later in the day 12 year old, Allysha Bergado, hit the vert ramp with other big names in skateboarding, LynZ Adams Hawkins and Karen Jones and inline skating legend Fabiola da Silva for a demo. The girls impressed by pulling some big air and landing complicated tricks.

Huntington Beach was the perfect home for such a great event with surf shops and restaurants surrounding the venues. It made it so easy to catch the action, grab lunch in between or few drinks at the end of the day. All three days were drenched with the California sun completing the whole experience.

The Supergirl Jam prelims another awesome action sports event, the X Games14 which starts, July 31, 2008 in Los Angeles, CA. There is a full day dedicated to women at the event on Friday, August 1 with women’s Moto X and Skateboarding competitions and clinics. (www.girlsgetonboard.com)
