Roxy Olympians

Experience will be a huge asset for the Roxy team with Torah Bright, Kjersti Buaas, Lesley McKenna and Lisa Wiik, making their second and third appearances on the Olympic stage.  Each girl will be riding Roxy’s high tech boards and wearing Roxy goggles during the Olympics.

Known as the most technical female rider on the slopes, Torah Bright has been photographed countless times and become a household name with her winning smile and gracious attitude.  She was the first Roxy athlete to launch her own signature collection, the Roxy Bright Edition during the 2008/2009 winter and is a two-time Winter X Games gold medalist in the halfpipe event.

New Zealand snowboarder Kendall Brown has been competing since she was 11 years old and represented her home country in the Olympics at the young age of 16, finishing 25th in the halfpipe at Torino.  Now at 20 years old she is excited to be competing in her second Olympics.

Known internationally as “Snowboarding’s Queen of Style” this will be Kjersti Buaas’ third Olympics.  She won bronze at the 2006 Torino games, and since then has been on a competitive roll, finishing in the top 5 of the TTR rankings in 2008/2009 season.

Polish snowboarder Paulina Ligocka has been snowboarding for over 12 years, and competed in the 2006 Olympics in Torino, placing 17th in the women’s halfpipe competition.

With over 20 British Championship titles in all disciplines, Lesley McKenna is Britain’s top snowboarder and the only rider from the UK to have competed in two Winter Olympics, with her third games quickly approaching.  In addition to riding, Lesley has become active in the snow film industry, co-producing and co-directing “Dropstitch”, “Transfer” and “Last Winter.”

A halfpipe specialist, Mirabelle Thovex comes from a famed snow family, her brother Candide is the living legend of freestyle skiing and her father is a famed instructor, but Mirabelle stands on her own as the family’s only snowboarder.  In 2008 at the age of 16 she won the Burton European Open Junior.  With a hugely promising future Vancouver will be her first Olympic appearance.

A proud member of the Roxy snow team, Norway’s Lisa Wiik had a breakout year in 2009, finishing second in the TTR rankings and second in the Burton Open Series. This will be Lisa’s second Olympic appearance, she finished 10th in 2002 games in Salt Lake City.

The Women’s Halfpipe event will take place on February 18, 2010 at Cypress Mountain and feature a 22’ halfpipe.  For additional information on the Roxy snow team please visit www.roxy.com.
