Life Lessons Learned Through the Journeys in Saltwater Buddha - A Surfer's Quest to Find Zen on the Sea

Saltwater Buddha, A Surfer’s Quest To Find Zen On The Sea
Author: Jaimal Yogis

It’s not everyday you get to meet the author of the next inspiring book you’re about to read, but when you do it makes it all the more worth while - that is, if the author is as inspiring as he hopes the book to be.

Jaimal Yogis' Book ReadingI just happened to be attracted by the title of this book…anything with Saltwater usually means it has something to do with the ocean, which I love, and the combination of the word Buddha is bound to offer some goodness to the soul.

So, when I saw Jaimal Yogis was speaking and reading an excerpt from his book, Saltwater Buddha – A Surfer’s Quest to Find Zen on the Sea, at the all-inspiring yoga and athletic attire shop Lululemon in downtown Melbourne, I was there!

Jaimal, a handsome, curly, dark-haired surfer with a huge smile speaking in a very calm and warm Northern California-American accent told us about his child hood born to hippie parents and his worldly travels including a sabbatical in Hawaii after running away from home in search of more meaning in a life upon the sea.

He then took us through a meditation where we cleared our heads being lead into visualizations of the ocean sparkling with light across the sea, feeling the movement of water until we were nothing but one with the vast blue in our minds.

I hadn’t even turned a page and I was hooked.  I wanted to know more about his quest and what this book would unlock for me!

Well, it turns out Jaimal Yogis is inspiring and his book is one that offers insight into the mind of a wanderer, a person who has spent most of their life following his dreams and ideals about what makes us who we are…palm trees in Hawaii, perfect waves, surf magazines, Buddha statues, meditation etc.

But, after a journey of self-discovery traveling the world, higher education in New York City and near drowning in a cold-winter sea Jaimal’s realization is these things are not what makes us or defines us, we are but who we are and happiness better exists when we stop searching for perfection.

I think we all can associate with such dreams and desires.  And a lesson there lies to help us find a better calm and a way to live in the present. There are also many other little lessons and funny stories making this book a truly enjoyable read.
