General Tips and Advice - Baggage Delivery Service

If you arrive into Narita Airport and do not wish to drag a huge suitcase on public transportation to your destination there are several baggage delivery services available.

Also the other way around you can have your baggage picked up from your hotel or guest house and delivered back to the Airport.

The service is called "TAKUHAIBIN".

The cost of using takuhaibin depends on the type, size and weight of the package and the destination. Below are some typical prices just to give a rough idea:

Regular parcel (30 cm x 30 cm x 30cm, less than 10 kg):
Within Greater Tokyo area: 1200 Yen
From Tokyo to Osaka/Kyoto: 1300 Yen
From Tokyo to Kyushu: 1600 Yen
From Tokyo to Hokkaido: 1600 Yen
From Tokyo to Okinawa: 2300 Yen

Suitcase (80 cm x 40 cm x 30cm, less than 25 kg):
Within Greater Tokyo area: 1800 Yen
From Tokyo to Osaka/Kyoto: 1900 Yen
From Tokyo to Kyushu: 2200 Yen
From Tokyo to Hokkaido: 2200 Yen
From Tokyo to Okinawa: 3900 Yen
Tokyo to Narita Airport: 2400 Yen
Osaka/Kyoto to Kansai Airport: 2400 Yen

NOTE: It can be same day but up to as long as 3 days later.

If you are going be taking a trip internally within Japan and do not wish to take your big suitcase with you on the shinkansen (bullet train) or other transportation you can use above "TAKUHAIBIN". Or if your suitcase is small enough you can put it in one of the many coin lockers at Major Train stations.

NOTE: the largest size locker is approx. 117cm x 43cm x 57cm (44in x 16in x 22in) and it's available at a very small number of major stations.

Also ask at your hotel or guest house if they have a storage facility if you will be return back there and quiet often they will hold it for you.

I can highly recommend using the "TAKUHAIBIN" service its very easy and convienient and if used in Tokyo area it will generally arrive the following day so all you need to do is take a few clothes and personal toiletires from your suitcase before you send it.
