Last night I was talking to my best friend from Greece, who I had met at uni, about my ideas of my life as traveler, as in travelling to one country, working there for a while until I dont like it anymore and then moving on to another country and doing the same all over again there. I thought she was the type of person who would be up for that sort of thing, as she's always on the road meeting people, travelling to all those beautiful greek islands. Turns out that she wants to work work work after uni, that she cares more about work than family and traveling.
So I felt like I had already lost the one person I could myself travelling around the world. Because I dont see the point of travelling and seeing all the beauty in the world if I cant share it with someone.
As it happens I was talking to a friend of mine from Germany last night as well, talking about God knows what, but we happened to end up talking about travelling and how I wanna go and see different countries after finishing my degree before starting a graduate job, because I kinda feel like I'm running out of time considering how old I will be once I graduate. I know, I know, it's stupid, but I guess, feeling old kinda comes from hanging out with people who are like 5 years younger than I am. By the time they reach my age, they will have graduated already.
Anyways, so he was saying that he can see himself do the same, travelling that is, and that he can imagine doing that with me, and to my surprise I can actually picture us doing it! Like getting along all the time whilst travelling. We have the same kind of idea of travelling, as in not staying at hotels, but pitching a tent somewhere or living in a camper van or renting a cheap room and work some random job and explore the country and learn the language and culture and meet people and all that stuff.
He will graduate next year and will go back to Switzerland where he did his placement, and with his masters degree his annual income will be at least €50,000 - so he says. So I told him to work in Switzerland for 2 years until I finish my degree in 2011 and save up as much money as he can and then we'll travel. He'll pay, but I'll pay him back. AND HE SAID YES!!!
I got so carried away by that idea, that I actually grabbed an atlas and ripped out a picture of the political structure of the world and made a route (or list) of countries I wanna see and he's totally up for that too!! So now I've got this picture in my diary and I made it a wallpaper on my mobiles and I'll make a map of the world with the route which I will put on my wall in my new room when I go back to B'Ham, so I will constantly be reminded of what I'll be saving my money for :)
Route is this:
Ireland, United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, Portugal, Morocco, Spain, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Kenia, South Africa, Madagascar, India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Cuba, Jamaica, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brasil, Peru, Chile and Argentina.
But I'm planning on doing my placement in 09/10 in either Argentina, Canada, India, New Zealand, Spain or Switzerland anyways :)
LIFE IS GOOD :)
