New Date – Jan 2- 4, 2009
September 19, 2008 (Bend, Or) – The Women’s Motocross Association announced today the new location and date of the WMA Cup – the largest women’s motocross race in history. The sixth annual WMA Cup will take place at Freestone County Raceway, in Wortham, Texas, over the weekend of January 2 – 4, 2009 and will be run on the “National track” in conjunction with Freestone’s first ever motocross amateur national event.
The WMA Cup, which has drawn a record of 270 women entries in one year, is considered one of the premier championships on the women’s motocross calendar. The unique event offers upwards of 15 separate girls/women’s classes for all skill levels, bike sizes and ages and gives females the chance to race more than one women’s class. The Cup also draws from a long list of women competitors from all over the globe.
Says WMA President, Miki Keller, “We have had huge success with the WMA Cup but as women’s motocross continues to grow I felt that it would be best not to have the race overlap with another amateur event.” “We developed a great relationship with Freestone Raceway at the WMA pro national this year and Freestone is very dedicated to women’s motocross and putting on the best possible races. When the chance to move the WMA Cup and be a part of a new amateur national event presented itself, it seemed like the perfect evolution for this great championship”, added Keller.
All the important traditions and warm culture that defined the WMA Cup will stay in tact and will likely get even better with the involvement of the Freestone team.
For more information on the WMA Cup see the Race Information page of the WMA Site or www.freestonemx.com.
