Reporting on the Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010

Here we go – Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010! It’s great to be back at another Olympic event working as a photographer.  The buzz is alive with media running around, camera’s hanging off everyone’s shoulders, cameramen shooting clips on the streets, people shouting “Go Canada Go”.

It’s a wonderful opportunity with such a long stay (shooting both the Olympics and Paralympics) to get to know a foreign country, meet the people, eat the food and enjoy the scenery.

So far Canada comes across as a warm and friendly place with all cultures of people existing together in harmony.  A great example for an Olympic event…something the world should take note of.  And, last night I attended the Opening Ceremony where they worked very hard to show this to the world and represent the historical and very alive culture they share with their First Nations (the aboriginals of Canada).

Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony was beautiful...so magical and with such great talent and music.  Although, it was a sad night in a way with the lingering death of the boy from Georgia who died in the Luge accident.  Not a  great way to start the games, but really goes to show how EXTREME the Winter Olympics are...and how almost each and every sport competing has a massive level of difficulty that comes with it.  These athletes are really putting their life and limb on the line for the gold.

I am all settled in for my 6 weeks of Canadian adventures starting in Vancouver, still learning the public transport we get for free to the city and bus schedules to the venues, etc. for the accredited media.  Last night we got stranded and it took us 2 and half hours to get home...so walked in the door at 2am and started working on pictures for the next few hours.  Not a perfect start...tired today, but heading up to Cypress to shoot Moguls - should be cool, except for the rain expected.  Vancouver is a rainy place.....didn't get that memo, must have missed that one!

Anytime the east coast of the US wants to start shipping over some snow...we would love to have some!!!

ExplorerGirls will be reporting on the Snowboarding and Skiing from Cypress during the Winter Olympics – stay tunned! Also, follow my Tweets for updates from Vancouver!!
