Social media friendships definitely have a benefit as I found out last Saturday. I attended the Manly Surf School Facebook Frieends REWARDS day! I also attended the day with my awesome friend Courtney Tallon, who I met on the explorer girls Forum. How cool is that!
Court and I drove down to the chilly Manly at 10am to start our lesson. The clouds weren't looking so crash hot but we were just keen to hit the waves. We were told as soon as we got there that the waves were crumbling and panning out, perfect for beginner surfers.
The day started with a 2 hour lesson, followed by a wicked BBQ on top of the Surf Club and then a Surfing photography lesson with some of the industries best - check out Ian Bird, http://ianbirdphotography.com/.
I've been surfing about 10 times before, and had a couple lessons off a mate. Court has surfed quite a lot in the States (Long Beach Island where she is from). Both of us really enjoyed the lesson though and the one on one coaching. We had 4 professionals there who could direct us on which waves to catch, our stance and then give feedback on how we went.
The sun came out as we ate our sausage sangers and looked out over the stunning manly.
The day cost just $35 each (bring a friend and you got half price) and we got so much value from it. PLUS we had a ball! The water was 19 degrees but with a wet suit, it was perfect. Come rain, freezing weather or the sunshine, Surfing is awesome. I would 100% recommend Manly Surf School at any time of the year.
Don't miss out on their next day!
